Snakehead Fishing Ponds

One of the biggest attractions of Pilot 111 Fishing Ponds are the three snakehead ponds; two giant snakehead ponds and one striped snakehead pond. Anglers who do not have the time available to fish a jungle snakehead fishing safari at Khao Laem Dam with Fish Thailand now have the opportunity to lure fish for snakehead in a single day trip from Bangkok in these very well stocked ponds.

Snakehead are stocked upto 10lb which offer phenomenal sport especially on traditional surface lures whereby the ferocious hits are out of this world. There is no other venue where anglers of all abilities can enjoy lure fishing in Thailand for snakehead with such certainty of success, a perfect practice ground before embarking on a jungle snakehead fishing safari.

Snakehead like many of the fish species at Pilot 111 are air-breathers, having to surface for regular gulps of air. This creates a constant target to look for and cast too - retaining some of the same traditional elements of wild snakehead fishing.

Redtail Catfish, Featherback & Barramundi Ponds

Each pond is stocked with a single target fish specie. There are ponds for barramundi fishing, Asian redtail catfish fishing & featherback fishing. Anglers are free to roam amongst all ten ponds, targeting any of the species at any time in any order.

Fly fishing for snakehead, barramundi & featherback is incredibly effective, even the novice fly angler can enjoy successful fishing at Pilot 111 Fishing Ponds; aided by the high stocking density of each pond.

Fishing Salas, Toilets & Restaurant

The facilities at Pilot 111 Fishing Ponds are better than most other Thai fishing venues. On each Pond there are several well designed fishing salas useful to tackle up, retreat from the sun or rain or even fish from. The restaurant offers a delicious menu written in English & Thai, soft drinks and beer is also available on-site. The toilet facilities are built to western standard and kept clean at all times, all these factors add to the pleasure and comfort of each fishing day.

Lure Fishing Tackle

Fish Thailand supplies each angler with a full armory of specialist lure fishing equipment. Our lure rods are made by Rapala for the specific purpose of working a lure into life. This coupled with braid-loaded fixed spool reels ensure every twitch, pull & jerk of the lure is felt to the extent that it prints a clear mental picture of how the lure is acting beneath the surface. Fish Thailand guides will point out the most appropriate choice of lure from our enormous collection to suit the day’s conditions.

When Will A Fish Strike A Lure?

Defensive\Territorial Strike - a lure retrieved aggressively through a fish's comfort zone, will trigger a defensive\territorial strike.

Instinctive Strike - A lure invading a fish's feeding zone will trigger an instinctive strike.

Feeding Strike - A lure imitating a bait fish will trigger a strike when hungry.

Opportunist Strike - A lure retrieved to imitate a wounded fish will trigger a strike even when not hungry. Law of nature seems to be that anything that looks different or acts differently is singled out and attacked first.

What Makes A Great Lure Angler?

Watercraft – being able to locate fish, to some this is instinctive and to others it comes from years of lure fishing experience.

Lure Action – to be able to make a lure act enticingly at all retrieval speeds; also to be able to convincingly make a lure act like a wounded fish when necessary.

Accuracy – predatory fish typically inhabit margins, snags or submerged vegetation; often it is vital to cast and work the lure deep in these zones without snagging up.

Retrieval Speed – knowing when to retrieve the lure quickly or slowly depending on conditions and target specie.

Depth – temperature & barometric pressure are just two of many factors which determine the feeding depth of fish. This can change several times in the same day and it is important to adjust the operating depth of the lure to suit the changing conditions.

Fact - Pilot 111

The name 'Pilot 111' comes from the Thai owner of the ponds who is a pilot in the Thai Navy - his number: 111.
