Steve & Ron from Ipswich, England booked a 4 day Thailand fishing holiday with the Fish Thailand team.
DAY 1 - To break into the holiday they began with standard techniques fishing for giant Mekong catfish on the 'Method' - suspended 7ft beneath a float with great results. The biggest fish of the day was around upper 40's with the average being low 40's.
DAY 2 - Switching to 2 rods for giant Siamese carp and only 1 for Mekong catfish, the aim was to over the next few days to target big cats and carp. After baiting the swim heavily and setting the 2 carp rods in place, only 20 minutes had past when one of the carp rods was singing to us! Steve struck into the first giant Siamese carp of the fishing holiday and a good one at that. A frantic 10 minute fight produced an immaculate 63lb giant Siamese carp - already a huge achievement on the first day of fishing for the carp.
DAY 3 - Keeping the same techniques and target species was the order of the day. Early on Ron landed a beautiful 55lb Mekong catfish but no action from the carp rods. Then Steve bent into a special fish on the catfish rod, we all knew this was a huge fish so the other rods were reeled in for safety and to concentrate on helping Steve land his giant Mekong catfish. A good 30 minutes later and Steve had done a great job coaxing the fish in and eventually was netted by the guides. Immediately it was clear that this fish would break the 100lb mark and as the scales were lifted by 2 guides the dial indicated 47kg - 104lb !! Everyone was over the moon and a cheer let out accross the lake - a fish of a lifetime by any angler's standards.
DAY 4 - The last day of their Thailand fishing holiday produced a beautifully conditioned giant Siamese carp of 35lb for Steve and another cracking giant Mekong catfish of 88lb. All in all Steve & Ron caught 2 splendid giant Siamese carp, 2 huge Mekong catfish to 104lb and countless fish averaging 45lb. |
