Fish Thailand understand the
importance of putting new methods to the test before we
offer them to the public and whilst the newly launched
night fishing sessions at Jurassic had proved to be a huge
success for the predators, it was time to target the
Siamese carp.
Fish Thailand partner and head guide
Tom Broomhead set out into the night with close friend
Andy Allison as they went in search of the Siamese carp.
The ram was prepared and a blend of favours and attractors
had been added to it. Leaving the mix to settle, a single
rod was prepared with a float and feeder set at a starting
depth of 1.2m below the surface. Shortly after 8pm, the
starlight was cracked and first cast was made.
As the sweet aroma built a cloud in
the water, the float started to register indications
before shooting below the surface shortly after...

the first fish
The takes came in quick succession
from a depth ranging between as little as 0.5m down
to 2m below the surface.

By locking the feeder into position
this created a bolt mechanism meaning that all of the
takes were self hooking against the weight of the feeder.

session
Keeping a close watch of the float
dancing on the surface against the moonlight was a
pleasurable experience before seeing it shoot beneath as
the bite alarm sprung into life.
Another good fish for Andy
A short hooklink fished directly
below the feeder meant that a hookbait was not actually
required and instead they relied upon a combination of the
ram consistency and the filter feeding mechansim of the
siamese carp to set the hooks themselves.

The hook was checked prior to each
cast and perfected using a Jag hook sharpening kit. This
is extremely important given that this method relies
solely upon the fish hooking themselves.
Another Siamese carp for the tally
Each cast was precisely to the same
area after they selected a far bank marker and used a line
marker to hit the line clip every time being sure to
remove it immediately after the cast.

At the peak of the action the
quickest take took just 42 seconds after the ram feeder
entered the water.
All
of the carp landed were in immaculate condition and
put up a good account of themselves regardless of
their size.
The methods employed were certainly
successful and Siamese carp can be targeted during the
exclusive Jurassic night sessions with the Fish Thailand
Team.
Even the Amazon redtail could not resist the clouded
area. An unexpexted but equally welcome capture.
At midnight they decided to end the
test session having used all of the special ram given that
the angling had been so hectic.
The total tally for the 4 hours of
angling between 8pm and 12am using only 1 rod saw them
land a total of 10 Siamese carp and 1 Amazon redtail to
bring the session to a close.
