Filming 'River Monsters' with Jeremy Wade
Discovery Channel's Animal Planet came fishing for a day with The Fish Thailand Team to Bungsamran Lake in Bangkok. The primary target was a big Mekong catfish and secondly a Siamese carp. Catching a big Mekong from Bungsamran is a common occurrence, but catching a big carp in one days fishing is much less likely - especially in July.
Within the first hour Jeremy had hooked into a big Mekong of over 100lb, after playing it out perfectly for twenty minutes it was nearly ready for the net - just as the hook pulled out leaving us all in sadness.
Still the rest of the day was ahead to catch one, but after a few Mekong's of up to 50lb the carp rod screamed off resulting in a small but pretty Siamese carp of around 30lb.
Towards the end of the day the final carp run graced us, this time a much harder tug of war between Jeremy and fish. With powerful thrusts and quick changes of direction, the carp was determined to snag Jeremy under the bungalow. Only this fish didn't know that Jeremy has seen more tricky players throughout his adventurous angling travels and was not going to be beaten. The Siamese carp wallowed into the landing net and was a fine specimen for Animal Planet to witness him catch.
