The Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) is a freshwater fish species in the Cichlids family (family Cichlidae) of order Perciformes (perch-likes). The tilapia is not a native specie of Thailand; it is actually native to Africa.

The natural diet of the Nile tilapia is insects, crustaceans, algae, detritus & also fry making this fish an omnivore.
Nile Tilapia Identification
The most obvious characteristics of the Nile tilapia are the presence of regular dark vertical stripes throughout the depth of its dark green body. The long sharp spines of the dorsal fin raise high above its back as a defence against predators.
